Our Pastors

David Chatelier -Senior Pastor

David Chatelier David is the senior pastor of Canterbury Baptist Church.

He has served as a pastor since 1983 and developed a special interest in church planting.

Previously, he was employed by Queensland Baptists as a Regional Consultant and sought to develop healthy churches by assisting pastors and church leaders through times of transition, conflict and strategic planning. David also enjoys lecturing in practical theology.

He and Anita were married in 1976 and they have five children.

Keith Chessell -Pastoral Care & Connect Groups

Keith Chessel Keith Chessell, is responsible for pastoral care and Connect Groups working at CBC on a part-time basis, three days a week. He has been in ministry at CBC since the beginning of 2003 and prior to that at the Eltham Baptist Church.

Keith has also been involved in industry for over 40 years with Cadbury Schweppes (20 years in Sydney) and now has a 2 days/week role with the Science & Technology team as a Packaging Technical Specialist.

Keith is married to Helen. They have three adult children and four gorgeous grandchildren.

Jon Coombs - Youth Worker

Jon Coombs

Jon is responsible for leading and equipping the young people of our church in their Christian development. This is a two day per week assignment.

Jon and his wife, Jen, have been members of the CBC community for the last 5 years. During that time they spent two years in the Middle East serving as cross-cultural workers in a school. Before departing Australia Jon spent 3 years as a Personal Trainer and a Project Manager for a corporate health company. On top of this role he is studying a Masters of Divinity degree at the Bible College of Victoria.

Jon enjoys his sport, particularly football (all codes), cricket and basketball. He also enjoys reading, particularly biographies, theology and history.



Julia Beaumont - Schools Outreach

Julia Beaumont

Julia is the Schools Outreach Worker, working at CBC on a part-time basis, two days a week.

Julia has served in various CBC ministries since 2002. Her current role involves the co-ordination of a Senior Student Lounge at a local high school, as well as teaching Christian Religious Education at a local primary school and facilitating a university aged outreach Connect group. 


Julia is also in her fourth year of study at Whitley College and Melbourne University completing a Bachelor of Arts/Theology. She is particularly interested in anthropology and cross-cultural ministry.
